The holy torch of Saint Martha when held upright, is a holy light, granting inspiration, enlightenment, and divine guidance; when reversed, it becomes a necromantic firebrand of resurrection and corporal agency. It is this upside down torch, and the spirits attached to the embers and flames that burn therein, that this oleum captures for the benefit of the muerteros, witches , sorcerers, mystics and dead-workers.

Rooted in Iberian heretical Christianity and witchcraft, the oil allows an ember, called 'la brasa' in castellano, of the the torch of Saint Martha to the workings utilizing it. Here the Dominator, the Queen of the monstrous Tarasca, the sister of the resurrected Lazarus and Mary Magdalena, bestows her left-handed light to aide in the animation of spirit pots, fetishes, statues and other in-dwellings of the spirits of the Dead. As such, it is an important part of animating our own Lazarus fetishes.
